[An apology in advance for showering you Americans and others with Canadian politics.]
After a mentally exhausting month or so of YouTube politics ads, people from various political parties coming to our door, and politics stuff coming in the mail, the politics rush here in Canada has finally ended with a bang — the federal election, which occurred on Monday, October 19, 2015.

I was not all that interested in politics, but I knew that this was going to be a turning point for my country. The Conservatives had been at the head for a decade and the Liberals, no doubt, would gain their power. After the polls closed, I watched the livestream vote count online and hoped, somehow, that we’d end up with the lesser evil once more. And, let me tell you, it was basically like watching a train wreck. I knew all along it was too much to hope for, and I was right. We ended up with a Liberal majority government. Yaaaay. [heavy sarcasm]

Let me just stop myself before I start hate-ranting about my supposedly fellow Catholic prime minister. It’s 1) not charitable 2) sinful and 3) just generally not a good move on my part.

I’m quite the pessimist when it comes to outside world things like this, so naturally, my thinking is, “Dystopia, here we come.” (Yeah. I’m a little crazy like that.) But as a Catholic, I know that all things are ordered by God, and His way is the best way. It’s just hard in times like this to trust that this way is the way things should be, and there’s no better way for things to go. I will try my best to trust in God, and fellow Canadians, please join me in doing so. It would be better for us to just accept this than to hate-rant. There’s a 100% chance of something good coming out of this.

So hopefully the Americans out there will get a good president at the 2016 election, and if things don’t turn out the way you want it, just remember to trust in God. And as I pray for the good of your country (as well as mine), please return the favour and pray for the good of my country.
