I know, super creative title. Let’s just say it’s nice and obvious.

Okay well I’m Mary, in case you missed that, and I’ve been tagged to answer a few questions. Here goes…

  • Who is your patron saint and why?

I’ve got to agree with Christine Therese on this one- I have a list. But, luckily for you, I won’t go through them all or tell you about the time St. Thomas Aquinas stalked me (because he totally did). I’ll limit it to my one all time favorite saint: St. Augustine.

He also stalked me. That’s why he’s my confirmation saint.

Saint Augustine… he’s the patron saint of beer brewers (’nuff said) due to his life of partying prior to his conversion. Now he’s considered one of the greatest Church Fathers, and he’s also a Church Doctor. Which means he wrote a lot. Which means I like him, because I like reading. Currently I’m floundering somewhere in book 16 of his City of God.

Okay I should probably stop talking about him now…

  • What is your favorite thing to eat on Fridays in Lent?

I was going to say Nutella because the founder credited its success to Our Lady of Lourdes, which is awesome, but I guess Nutella doesn’t exactly scream penance…

Ummm, I guess veggie sandwiches. With a lot of this Italian seasoning stuff that we have, otherwise there’s no flavor.

  • If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

Okay my first reaction when I saw this question was: WHAT, YOU WANT ME TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE?????

Why did You have to make spiders???

I suppose I would ask Him to give me the grace of self-knowledge. (Does that count as a question? I think so.)

  • Would you rather hang out with friends or stay inside reading a book on Friday night?

Again, I second Christine Therese on this one. I’m a major introvert (I’m not anti-social, I’m just selectively social). And as I said before, I’m in the middle of reading City of God, so it would be nice if I could finish that. But as I’m writing this, one of my good friends is on a plane headed to Europe for the whole summer, so right now I really wish I could be with my friends. And -hey!- it’s a Friday night, so I’m going to say I would rather hang out with friends.

  • What is the last movie you watched?

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Unless you count yesterday when my siblings were watching The Little Mermaid in the background.

  • What is a career choice that you are thinking of?

(Finally, an easy question!) I want to enter the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia.

For those of you who read the FOS magazine, you might have noticed a while ago that a little blurb said I believed my vocation was marriage.

I was wrong. God emailed me to say so.

  • If you could invite any two people (living or dead) to coffee, who would they be?

First of all, let’s clarify something. It would be tea, not coffee.

Okay someone asked me this question once and I already know the answer, so this one is easy too. I would invite J.R.R. Tolkien and Saint Augustine. And I wouldn’t talk at all. I would just listen to their conversation and drink my tea and probably die of joy (or more likely already be dead, since this scenario will only be possible in heaven).

Well, I think that’s all of them. If you want me to explain any of my answers further, comment and ask me! If you want to tell me that coffee is better than tea, comment and debate me! (I will win. Tea is hands down better.)

Without further ado, I shall tag… Gabriela Marie!

In 1999, God had a crazy idea that people question the sanity of to this day. Apparently, He thought it would be very amusing to mix an artist, a philosopher, a theologian, an engineer who hates math, and an author into the strange species known as “female.” The resulting creation was a human known as Mary, who drinks Earl Gray tea and posts on her blog when she should be doing her schoolwork. Her motto is “Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam” (look it up, it’s Latin) and her role model is Saint Augustine of Hippo (that is, after he converted).

  1. WAIT YOU CAN HAVE MALE SAINTS FOR CONFIRMATION SAINTS EVEN IF YOU’RE FEMALE?!?!?! WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?!

Also TELL US/ME ABOUT THE TIME ST. DUMB OX AND ST. AUGUSTINE STALKED YOU I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS AND I NEED TO KNOW HOW THIS IS POSSIBLE AND HOW DO YOU GET AN EMAIL FROM GOD I ALSO NEED TO KNOW

*turns off all caps* Ahem. I shall be civilized now.

  2. Haha well first things first. I wasn’t aware that there was ever a time when females couldn’t have a male patron Saint. I knew it was very uncommon, but I’m not a very common person. 🙂
As for saint stalking and God emailing…. I hope you realized you just asked for multiple lengthy blog posts. Or a novel. But I’ll try to limit myself to blog posts.
