Life is hard. God never guaranteed that it would be easy. And, at times, it seems like nothing is going our way and everyone around us has everything they want and need. People often get angry at God and pray in desperation, asking why He would let us suffer in these ways and why He has not given us this thing or why He has not blessed us with a good grade in this class and why He has not given us that virtue we’ve been asking for.

Asking is good, but it is not always praying. Often times when we are stressed it is difficult to pray. I go through times in my life where I know God is the only answer to what I am having a hard time with, but it is difficult, especially when you get older, to have complete and total reliance in God and His perfect plan.  I tend to just ask God to help me when I am stressed instead of taking time to rest and pray. Asking can be the first step of prayer, as we recognize our humility and understand that only God can give us what we need, but asking doesn’t feel us with peace. When I am stressed, it is most often because I feel as if I have too many things to do and too little time to accomplish everything. As a result, I don’t give God the time He needs in prayer with me to heal me of my hurt. I just ask and ask and ask but I have a hard time getting down on my knees and praying about it and letting God give me His infinite peace.

God is truly the answer to all of our problems, especially if we are stressed. Not once in the Bible does it say to be anxious, stressed or worried. In fact, the phrase “be not afraid” is the most common phrase in the Bible.

My favorite Bible verse is this:

         “‘Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand’” (Isaiah                   41:10).

This sums up perfectly how God works to de-stress our lives. He tells us to not be afraid, because He is holding us with His right hand, the same hand that created this world and every minute detail about it. I’d say that’s pretty trustworthy.

God already knows everything you are worried and stressed about. All you need to do is invite Him to hold your hand along this journey.
